We offer several opportunities for children to improve their reading, math and language skills. Note, in-person programs for fall 2020 have been cancelled but online resources are available and listed below.

Other Learning Support and Materials

  • Kids can learn and practice coding and electronics skills with our coding and electronics kits (currently not being loaned due to COVID-19)
  • Curriculum Kits are bags filled with up to 20 library items designed to help kids learn about specific subjects
  • Kids can read along with our Vox books. These books have recordings that children can follow along with
  • Our Launchpad tablets are pre-loaded tablets with age-specific learning activities. These can be borrowed and taken home and do not require internet access.

  • Activities for kids and families are posted on our Home Based Activities Page
  • eBooks and Audiobooks available through our OverDrive (Libby app), cloudLibrary and Tumblebooks. Tumblebooks also has many French books
  • Need a computer with internet or to print documents? Visit our Main Branch and we can help!

Summer Read-On Tutoring Program

  • For children entering grades 2 to 6
  • Children are paired with a tutor for one-week tutoring sessions held online
  • Tutoring subjects include literacy, French and math
  • Multiple sessions are available to choose from over the summer. However, children can register for only one session
  • While tutors are specially trained and have experience working with children, tutors are not qualified to work with children with special needs
  • Registration for this program opens in June.

Book Buddies


  • For children in grades 2-6 during the school year (not running in fall 2020)
  • Child receives one-on-one reading help from a Laurier Students for Literacy Club volunteer
  • Regular meeting times are assigned at our Main Branch

Get Ready for Kindergarten


  • For preschoolers ages 3+ (must be toilet trained)
  • Children participate in activities that prepare them for kindergarten
  • Activities are done with programmer while parents wait in the Library
  • Sessions are usually held fall, winter and spring
  • Online registration required 

Homework Help Drop-In


  • For children in Grades 1 to 8 during the school year (not running fall 2020)
  • Drop in to our Main Branch for homework help with a volunteer from the Laurier Students for Literacy Club

Rendez-Vous For Learning

  • For children in grades 1 to 3
  • Improve your child's French reading skills by pairing them with a French Immersion High School student
