Learning and Homework Help

We offer several opportunities for children to improve their reading, math and language skills through both afterschool and summer programs and events.

Book Buddies

  • For children in grades 2-6
  • Child receives one-on-one reading help from a Laurier Students for Literacy Club volunteer
  • Regular meeting times are assigned at our Main Branch
  • Register in person January 4 and 11 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Main Branch

Get Ready for Kindergarten

  • For preschoolers ages 3+ (must be toilet trained)
  • Children participate in activities that prepare them for kindergarten
  • Activities are done with programmer while parents wait in the Library
  • Sessions are held fall, winter and spring
  • Online registration required - check our events calendar for dates.

Homework Help Drop-In

  • For children in grades 1 to 8
  • Drop in to our Main Branch for homework help with a volunteer from the Laurier Students for Literacy Club

  • Runs from January 27 to April 2 (no program the week of Feb. 17-21 because of university reading week)

Rendez-Vous For Learning

  • For children in grades 1 to 3
  • Improve your child's French reading skills by pairing them with a French Immersion High School student
  • In partnership with the Canadian Parents for French - Brantford Chapter

Summer Tutoring Read On Program

  • For children entering grades 2 to 6
  • Provides one-on-one summer tutoring on specific subjects for two straight weeks. Each daily session is 45-minutes
  • While tutors are specially trained and have experience working with children, the program is not designed and tutors are not qualified to work with children with special needs
  • Multiple sessions available each summer
  • Registration for this program opens in the spring

Other Learning Materials

  • Kids can learn and practice coding and electronics skills with our coding and electronics kits
  • Curriculum Kits are bags filled with up to 20 library items designed to help kids learn about specific subjects
  • Kids can read along with our Vox books. These books have recordings that children can follow along with
  • Our Launchpad tablets are pre-loaded with age-specific learning activities. These can be borrowed and taken home
