Local Author Submissions

To submit a title for inclusion in the Brantford Public Library’s collection, please read the guidelines below and complete the Local Author Application Form:

  • A “local author” is a Brantford, County of Brant or Six Nations resident or an author who wrote about Brantford, County of Brant or Six Nations while living here.
  • Eligible books are those published in the last two years.
  • Eligible books are subject to the Library's Selection Criteria as outlined in the Collection Development Policy and may or may not be added.
  • The book must be a donated copy.
  • Eligible books are donations to the Library.
  • Only bound books are accepted (no spiral or manuscript form).
  • The author must represent and warrant full ownership and/or legal rights to publish all material in the book, including artwork.
  • If your book is selected, you will be notified by a Library staff member, and your book will be available in the Library’s catalogue in approximately six to eight weeks.
  • We monitor our collection closely, and local author items are subject to regular evaluation. Should there be demand, we will place an order for more copies of your book. Items that are in poor condition or not circulating will be withdrawn.

Books will be immediately disqualified for the following reasons:

  • Books by authors who reside outside of the locations listed above.
  • Unusual bindings – spiral bound, stapled, etc. Cookbooks may be spiral-bound.
  • Loose pieces – loose-leaf pages, items glued inside the book, etc.
  • Lots of typos or other errors.
  • Limited interest to our customers.
  • Nonfiction books that do not have a table of contents, index, and/or bibliography.
  • Nonfiction books whose topics do not match what’s listed on the cover.
  • Workbooks or other books that encourage writing inside them.
eBooks

We obtain eBooks through third-party vendors.  Smashwords is an eBook publisher that makes your eBook available on the OverDrive platform and available for the Library to select.

If your book is available on Smashwords, please indicate that in the Local Author Application Form.
