Joanette, Henry Joseph

Pte. Henry Joseph Joanette, grandson of Mrs. Elmire Masse, 21 Sarah St., lost his life at Almen, Holland, fighting with the Royal Regiment of Canada, on April 2, 1945, a little more than a month before the end of the war in Europe. Enlisting with the Canadian Army on November 16, 1942, Pte. Joanette was trained at Camp Borden, Saint John and Debert, and in October, 1944, left for England. He went into action in Holland. He was buried near the place at which he lost his life in the vicinity of a farmhouse. Born in Brantford on March 15, 1923, Henry attended St. Mary's School and Church. He had many friends here and was interested in the sporting activities of the community. At the time of his enlistment, he was employed by Scarfe and Company, Ltd.
