Hine, Edward Alexander

F/O Edward Alexander (Ted) Hine, R.C.A.F., was reported missing on November 19, 1944, after air operations from an English base, and it was presumed that the whole crew of the Halifax bomber was lost over the North Sea. F/O Hine had a successful Air Force career which began with his enlistment in July, 1942. He was trained in Aylmer, London and Mont Joli, and graduated from Crumlin, receiving his bombardier's wings and his commission as pilot officer on November 12, 1943. He proceeded overseas in the following April. On the day he was reported missing, his promotion to flying officer was granted. Born March 21, 1914, in Cainsville, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hine, F/O Hine had a worthy example set by his father, who not only served overseas during the First Great War, but also in the last conflict. Subsequently the father returned home ill and passed away on December 26, 1943. As a boy, F/O Hine attended Cainsville, King George and Central Schools. He was a member of St. Luke's Church. For many years interested in radio, he had his own amateur short-wave station. Before his enlistment he was employed at the Watson Manufacturing Company. Surviving him besides his brother, is his daughter, Peggy.
