Forrest, Frederick

F/O Frederick Forrest enlisted in the R.C.A.F., in June, 1941, and until his death following air operations on January 29, 1944, upheld the highest traditions of his branch of the armed forces. He had been a good student while training as an observer at Toronto, Crumlin and Fingal and, going overseas in July, 1942, he began to participate in raids over enemy territory. In October, 1943, he was mentioned in news reports as having taken part in a raid on the German industrial centre of Frankfurt. His family learned that he was buried at Zulen, 40 miles north of Berlin. The son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Forrest, born April 23, 1923, in Toronto, Fred moved to this district with his family when he was six years of age. He attended the White School House and then the Brantford Collegiate Institute and Vocational School. While at the B.C.I., he distinguished himself at track meets, capturing many of the coveted prizes. He was also a fine hockey, basketball and rugby player. A member of St. Luke's Church, some indication of his popularity was seen in the beautifully arranged and largely attended memorial service held for him there on March 14, 1944. He was married to Miss Dorothy Chinnery.
