Meredith, Howard William

Tpr. Howard William Meredith, 21, lost his life on October 19, 1944, during the battle of the Leopold Canal, Belgium, after having been in action since the invasion of France on D-Day. Corning to Brantford in October, 1939, he was on the staff of the

Bond House-furnishing Company, and until he enlisted on December 7, 1942, resided with his sister, Mrs. Fred McCleary, 294 Marlboro Street. With the Duke of York's Royal Canadian 17th Hussars, Tpr. Meredith had served as a Bren gun carrier driver. He had trained at Listowel, Ont., and Dundurn, Sask., and had been moved overseas in July, 1943. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Meredith, Maxwell, Ont.
