Waugh, Stanley Earl

Sgt. Stanley Earl Waugh, 28-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Waugh, Princeton, Ont., formerly of R.R. 3, Cainsville, one of the comparatively small number who survived the Dieppe raid, lost his life in a motorcycle accident in England on December 2, 1943. It was while on night training manoeuvres and doing his job as a dispatch rider that he was struck in the darkness by a lorry. He was buried with full military honors in the Canadian cemetery at Brookwood. His death brought to an untimely end a military career that had much promise and that had begun in March, 1940, when he enlisted with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry. He went overseas that July. Living in Brant County all his life, he had attended Tranquility School and the Brantford Collegiate Institute and Vocational School. After his schooldays, he joined his father in farming and also took an active interest in the community life. He is survived by his widow.
