Lambert, George Robert

PP/O George Robert Lambert was one of that adventurous group of young Brantfordites who, before the Second Great War began, sailed to England to join the Royal Air Force, prepared to help in what they felt was a surely impending war. Sailing on August 1, 1939, George achieved his goal in a short time, and on October 23 was graduated as a pilot officer and began to play an active part in the service. On July 6, in the following summer, there was an accident as his plane took off from its English base. P/O Lambert lost his life and a career so rich in promise was suddenly ended. Brantford with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D, Lambert, 228 ? Clarence Street. He attended Central and Dufferin Schools and then the Collegiate Institute. There he was an outstanding all-round student and athlete, starring on the rugby field, playing on the basketball team and being actively interested in the dramatic activities. He was also a member of the Cadet Corps, and in his senior years, an officer. His interest in amateur dramatics continued after his school days and he was, for a time, stage manager of the

Brantford Drama League. His church was Central Presbyterian, and as with all organizations to which he belonged, he took an active interest in the Sunday School, the Young People's Society and the Kintail Summer Camp. After his school days, he was employed at Forbes Brothers and then at Hawley Products of Canada, Ltd.
