Monteith, John Charles

P/O John Charles Monteith was reported missing February 19, 1943, after an operational raid on Wilhelmshaven, a year from the day he arrived overseas. Training at St. Hubert, Que., Trenton, Mount Hope, Hagersville and Camp Borden, he received the highest honors in operational flying and declined an offer to become an instructor so that he could proceed overseas, where he made flights over various parts of the continent. He was the captain of a Stirling bomber when he met his death at the age of 20. A graduate of the Paris High School, and known as "Todd", P/O Monteith was an athlete of good standing and won the Senior B W.O.S.S.A. pole vaulting championship in 1939, and acquired the High School letter "P" the year of its initial presentation. He was the son of Mrs. Monteith and the late Lt.-Col. Monteith and a twin brother to F/O Herbert Monteith, also of the R.C.A.F.
