Ingalls, Bruce Johnston

F/L Bruce Johnston Ingalls, D.F.C., younger son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth S. Ingalls, 41 Lincoln Ave., had been on active service since 1941, in England, Africa, Malta, Sicily and Italy with the City of Windsor Squadron, R.C.A.F., of which he was a flight leader. He was an ace Spitfire pilot with a record of eight enemy planes to his credit at the time he lost his life on June 16, 1944, north of Rome. At the time he was engaged in strafing German staff cars at treetop level. He was buried near Lake Trasimeno. F/L Ingalls was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross early in 1944, and the citation in connection with the decoration stated it was for "exceptional courage and leadership in attacks on many objectives". F/L Ingalls was born in Danville, Que., and his parents took up residence in Brantford after his death. He is also survived by his widow and daughter, Barbara Jean, Sayabec, Que.
