Hines, Claude William

Cpl. Claude William Hines, 23, came to Brantford early in the first year of the war with his twin brother, Clarence. The two young men had worked their way from their home in Big Valley, Alta. He was at the Cockshutt Plow Company, Ltd., when he enlisted in the Canadian Army on March 10, 1943. He trained at No. 20 C.I.B.T.C., and then at Camp Borden. Late in that same year he was moved overseas and joined the Irish Regiment of Canada. He went into action in Italy in March, 1944, and fought through the summer campaign to lose his life at Coriano Ridge, on September 13. He was buried by his comrades at St. Giovanni and later his body was transferred to the British Military Cemetery at Gradara. On March 29, 1941, he was married to the former Miss Muriel Rowe, who with her daughter, Meryle Edna, resides at 97 Park Ave. He is also survived by his father, Mr. Clarence Hines.
