Fisher, George Albert

Cpl. George Albert Fisher, 27, died of burns in Italy on August 1, 1944, following an accident when a truck he was driving caught fire. In spite of all that could be done to save him, he passed away four days later and now lies buried about 40 miles north of Rome. Cpl. Fisher, who resided at 241 Wellington St., had many friends in Brantford. He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Fisher and besides his wife he leaves two small daughters, Donna and Lola. Cpl. Fisher was born at Guelph but came to Brantford when he was very young and received his education at the Alexandra School here. He enlisted in August, 1940, and after training at Hamilton, Toronto and Camp Borden, sailed overseas in June, 1941. Before the days of the war, he worked at the Cockshutt Plow Company, and during his leisure time was fond of sports, particularly bowling, at one time being a member of the Cockshutt bowling team. He was a member of St. Jude's Anglican Church.
