Brown, Thomas William

L/Cpl. Thomas William Brown, son of Pte. John Dryden Norman Brown and Mrs.

Brown, 81 West River St., Paris, died of wounds caused by enemy shell fire, near Ortona, Italy, on November 1, 1943, and was buried in the Moro River Cemetery. He was serving as a Commando with the Royal Canadian Regiment attached to the 8th Army. Enlisting on June 10, 1940, in the Canadian Army, L/Cpl. Brown trained in London and Camp Borden and then travelled north with a precision platoon for demonstration purposes. He also worked with the ski-troops before going overseas in 1941. Born in Paris on October 14, 1920, Thomas attended school there, and during his schooldays was active in lacrosse and hockey circles. He was a member of St. James' Anglican Church, singing in the boys' choir for eight years and taking keen interest in the Boy Scout troop. His father was a member of the fine Pipe Band at No. 20 C.I.B.T.C., at Brantford and was also a veteran of the First Great War.
