Gunn, Francis

Bdr. Francis Gunn left Brantford with the 54th Battery in December, 1939, for overseas duty. He was in England more than two years, training with the Canadian troops and preparing for the invasion ahead. But Bdr. Gunn was to have no part in the actual combat as he met death in an accident on February 14, 1942. With his unit, he had just moved to a new barracks, and thinking he was stepping out on a balcony from an upstairs door, fell to the ground below and was fatally injured. Brookwood Cemetery, Surrey. His unit mourned the loss of a good soldier, and his friends a faithful companion. Born in Renfrew, Scotland, October 9, 1904, Bdr. Gunn came to Canada when he was an adult. He was employed at the Brantford Coach and Body Limited, and enlisted with the 54th Battery as soon as it mobilized after war began. He is survived by his widow, a son, Francis William, and his mother, Mrs. Mary Gunn.
