Taylor, John Elliot

F/O John Elliott Taylor, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Taylor, 148 Sheridan St., was reported missing on July 15, 1944, while on coastal patrol over the North Sea. Based in England, the Brantford airman was a member of a Liberator crew and while over enemy territory, so his family has been informed, the plane was attacked and was lost in the sea. One of the cities highly regarded young men; F/O Taylor had a wide circle of friends. For two years on the staff of the Royal Bank and then with Glendinning, Gray and Roberts, he was well known in the downtown business section. Wellington Street United Church, he had throughout his youth formed many lasting associations in the community and news that he was missing deeply grieved his friends. While at the Collegiate, his interest outside of the classroom was in the school orchestra in which he played a clarinet. Enlisting in the R.C.A.F., at London in May, 1942, he trained as a navigator-observer in Toronto, Dunnville, Belleville and Chatham, N.B., graduating and receiving his wings and commission on April 2, 1943, from the last named school. He sailed overseas and was posted to the Coastal Command.
