Lemon, George Frederick

Pte. George Frederick Lemon, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Lemon, 113 Dundas Street, lost his life in Italy on May 30, 1944, while serving with an advance party of the Irish Regiment of Canada. His path of duty was a hazardous mine-strewn one, and in helping to clear the way for his comrades, he forfeited his life. His superior officers and his fellow soldiers paid high tribute to his bravery in carrying out his work. Now he lies buried in the Liri Valley, in Italy. Born in Brantford on August 6, 1921 his school days were spent at King George and Major Ballachey Schools. He attended Marlboro' United

Church and Sunday school, and during the winter seasons his favorite outdoor activity was skating. He was employed at the Cockshutt Moulded Aircraft, Limited, until he enlisted on November 9, 1942. After his training in Orillia and Camp Borden, he was sent to England in May of the following year.
