Schultz, Harold

Gnr. Harold Schultz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schultz, 14 Winnett St., made the supreme sacrifice at Pachino, Sicily, on July 12, 1943, after long service with the Canadian Army, having enlisted almost as soon as war was declared in September, 1939. Gnr, Schultz was a member of the 34th Battery which left Brantford in December of that first war year and spent the next three and a half years in England until the invasion of Sicily, when he was transferred to the First Division. He was buried at Pachino. Born at Brantford, he attended Cainsville School and St. Matthew's Lutheran and First Baptist Churches in this city. As a youngster, he was interested in the Boy Scouts, principally because of the outdoor program. He was fond of hunting and fishing and one of his hobbies was taxidermy. There is on exhibition in the local museum some samples of his skill. Even when he was in the Army, he continued his interest in athletics and at one time in the First Division's cross-country race of six miles, the team which included Gnr. Schultz was the winner. After his school days he was employed at the Slingsby Manufacturing Company. He was married to the former Muriel Avey.
