McQueen, William Stokes

Although wounded himself, Cpl William Stokes McQueen drove a carrier with several wounded men through an area under heavy mortar fire to the Regimental Aid Post, then collapsed and died of wounds the next day, at Caen, June 9, 1944. He enlisted May,

1940, with the Highland Light Infantry, Galt. He was born in Brantford, October 7, 1919, and attended school here and played hockey in the City League. Fond of the outdoors, he was a tobacco farmer and found great pleasure in fishing and hunting. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. M. McQueen, Paris, and a brother, George, served overseas with the Canadian Army.
