Digital Membership

If you live in Brantford, you can get instant, temporary access to our digital collections as a convenient first step towards full membership, by completing the Digital Membership form.

After signing up for a digital membership, digital members have 3 months to visit any Brantford Public Library branch to convert their digital membership to a full membership before the digital membership expires. 

When visiting to join as a full member, bring two pieces of current ID. One of these must have your name and current address.

Reciprocal Borrowing Membership

Residents of the County of Brant, Six Nations of the Grand River, and Cambridge who belong to their local library can sign up for a Brantford Public Library reciprocal borrowing membership card. Reciprocal borrowers have free and full access to the Brantford Public Library’s physical collections and Overdrive/Libby collections.

Visit any Brantford Public Library branch to complete a membership application in person. When visiting to join as a reciprocal borrowing member, bring two pieces of current ID. One of these must have your name and current address.

Non-Resident Membership

People who are not eligible for full membership are welcome to apply for a non-resident membership card, for a fee of $40 a year. This fee is applied when you pick up your library card and can be paid for with cash, debit, credit and cheques made payable to Brantford Public Library.

Visit any Brantford Public Library branch in person to register as a non-resident member. Bring two pieces of current ID. One of these must have your name and current address.

Internet Membership

Internet memberships allow people to use computers in the Library. These computers are connected to the internet and printers and provide access to a selection of Library resources.

Visit any Brantford Public Library branch to complete a membership application in person. Bring current ID with you if available.

Temporary Membership

Temporary cards are available for individuals that have limited identification, including individuals awaiting updated identification documents, individuals new to Canada or the area, or individuals living in Brantford for a short period of time.

To register as a temporary member, visit any Brantford Public Library branch in person. A minimum of one piece of documentation that verifies identity must be shown.

Access Membership

Access cards are available for individuals without a permanent address or formal identification.

To register as an access member, visit any Brantford Public Library branch in person. Identification requirements for this type of membership are flexible.

Institution Memberships

Institution cards provide local organizations full access to our resources and collections.

To apply for an Institution Card:

1. Fill out the Institution Card Application 
2. Have the application approved by your organization's Designated Officer. A Designated Officer must be a Principal, Vice-Principal, Manager, Director, or equivalent
3. Submit completed form:
• in person at any Brantford Public Library branch
• by email
• by fax to 519-756-4979

Individual staff members at organizations can apply for their own card with the Designated Officer's approval.

Approved applicants will be notified and must pick up their card in person at the Main Library.

All Institution cards will expire annually at the end of September.
