Looking for things to do on your weekend or whatever day you choose to relax? We’ve got you covered! This week we’ve loved links to a cute video about squirrels, a cooking series that will help you unwind by cooking a delicious meal, a podcast to help you choose the perfect book to cozy up with and a list of fun D.I.Y. projects for kids and adults who are kids at heart.
- I'm sure I'm not the only one who has been cooking and baking up a storm with more time at home these days, (will the stores ever have flour again?). Well if you would like some inspiration in the kitchen, try the daily free cooking series called Kitchen Quarantine on Instagram by Massimo Bottura, one of the most famous chefs in the world. Lessons are taught in English and start at 3 p.m. every day, with dishes from tortellini to vegetarian Thai curry! Let us know what you whip up in the kitchen tonight! You can also find the show here on Youtube, bon appetit! - Kim
- What happens when a former NASA engineer and Apple Inc. inventor creates YouTube videos? You get thousands of followers who want to watch more of Mark Rober creating do-it-yourself gadgets, debunking myths and testing science theories. What if all the toilets flushed at once? How do you beat any escape room? Can sharks really smell a drop of blood? Tune into Rober's YouTube channel for amazing videos that you will watch for hours! He even invented a trap for thieves that steal packages off your doorstep, which releases a fountain of glitter! Let us know what incredible facts you learn! - Kim
- Are you looking for fun D.I.Y. projects adults and kids will enjoy together? I know there are SO many sites offering this, but I really liked BuzzFeed: 27 Ridiculously Cool Projects for Kids that Adults will want to try.The whole family will surely have a blast making rainbow soap or rock candy! - Val
- This video is interesting, informative, AND cute. Mark Rober shares his adventures with trying to keep squirrels away from his bird feeders, and ends up building an elaborate obstacle course. You'll learn lots of interesting things about squirrels and see how adaptable and clever they truly are. - Zile
- Like so many people, I often struggle with the question of what to read next. The What Should I Read Next podcast answers this exact question! The podcast host asks her guests to share three books they love and one book they hate and then makes a recommendation. It’s fun to hear about books people love and surprisingly, just as fun to hear people talk about books they hate! After listening to this podcast I have even more books to add to my summer reading list. Oh, and don’t forget to check out Recommended Reads for Adults from readers in our community and some of your favourite Brantford Public Library staff! - Anna
- Lately I’ve been looking for opportunities to spend more time outside and enjoy the sunshine. This list of nature walk activities has some great suggestions to engage kids while out for a walk or even just hanging out in your backyard. I especially like that the activities focus on the process rather than the end result, which make them great for kids of different ages and it lets each kid make the activity their own! - Anna
