Saturday Share - June 6

Welcome to the Saturday Share! Each week the Brantford Public Library team is sharing some of their favourite links from the past week. You’ll find links to ideas, apps, tutorials and books and more that we’ve loved!

This week we are sharing links that have helped us look beyond our everyday lives, get inspired and most importantly learn.

  1. While searching for Canadian ideas to keep us busy during isolation, I found this amazing website where you can discover our beautiful country from the comfort of your home! Simply click anywhere on the interactive map of Canada and you can see things from the St. Lawrence Market in Toronto, to the Northern Lights in the Northwest Territories! Take a virtual tour of the sights and sounds of Canada from your couch and let us know where you end up! No passport required! -Kim
  2. Today is the perfect day for a sweet treat. These instructions from Science Bob will show you how to make ice cream in a plastic bag. You won’t need any fancy ingredients or a special machine, just things you probably already have around the house. - Amy
  3. Sidewalk chalk is a favourite summer time activity that’s collaborative and sparks creativity. A mother daughter duo are using their time at home to create sidewalk chalk creations that come to life as 3D images! I love seeing people using everyday objects at home to create and make something new. Check out their gallery of sidewalk chart art if you’re looking for some creative inspiration! - Anna
  4. We’ve curated a #blacklivesmatter reading list on our Overdrive page. Here you will find both fiction and non-fiction Adult, Young Adult and Children’s books from our e-Book and Audio collections. Here you will find powerful and important stories, including Jason Reynolds’, STAMPED; Lawrence Hill’s, The Book of Negroes; Alice Walker’s, The Colour Purple; Bryan Stevenson’s, Just Mercy; and Angie Thomas’, The Hate U Give. Here you will find an opportunity to learn and educate. Here you will find a place to open your eyes, open your heart and open valuable books. - Liana
