Saturday Share - June 27
Welcome to the Saturday Share! Each week the Brantford Public Library team is sharing some of their favourite links from the past week. You’ll find links to ideas, apps, tutorials and books and more that we’ve loved!
This week we’ve rounded up links to explore art, coding and the interesting ways they can come together to create something new.
- These are some great arts and crafts tutorials for kids. This YouTube channel’s fun kid activities playlist has everything from creating optical illusions to calligraphy. - Alana
- Who doesn't love Disney characters? I found this amazingDisney video tutorial, where I learned how to draw every character from Elsa to Olaf to Winnie the Pooh! The best part? No skill required! Get out your pencil and enjoy a calming weekend art project, and let us know how it feels to be an artist! - Kim
- Do you love Disney Pixar movies like Toy Story, Cars and Monsters Inc.? Now I can learn how Pixar artists do their job, and can build my own swarm of robots and make virtual fireworks, through this free workshop on Khan Academy! Learn how Art, Math and Science come together to create the amazing movies that we love, and let us know what cool facts you learn! (For instance, one frame of a movie can take 24 hours to make!). - Kim
- McMaster Outreach is a team that aims to provide a fun and safe environment for elementary and middle school students to learn coding! This year they're offering coding lessons, virtual summer camps, and coding tools, all for free (yes, even the virtual summer camps are free), all geared for children under 18. Even adults just learning the basics of coding may want to check out their website. - Zile
- June is National Indigenous History Month! Each day City News is posting a new video celebrating indigenous culture, art and history. There are also many interactive and beautiful virtual gallery tours available. I particularly enjoyed the vivid colours and interactiveness of Alex Janvier's mural Morningstar, and the extensive information provided about techniques used in Inuit prints from Cape Dorset. - Zile
